Who We Are

Mike and Shirley Pounds

We are Mike and Shirley Pounds. Our heart is for the addicted poor. We have Bible College training and extensive training in Leadership Development and Supervision.

In 1968, Mike began his career with Peniel Mission. Shirley joined him in 1970 after they were married. We spent our first 15 years of marriage in the dangerous inner city of Oakland where we were needed most.

Throughout 28 years we both served with Peniel Missions where Mike was appointed by World Gospel Mission as the Field Supervisor. Both of us had supervisory responsibilities for the overall care and management of the West Coast Peniel Missions located in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles and Stockton; the Haitian American Ministries in Florida also became part of the Peniel Missions.

In 1998, we both joined CityTeam where Mike became Regional Vice President of West Coast sites. Shirley became City Director in San Francisco and grew a struggling city ministry into a 4,000 strong volunteer effort annually.

In 2011, we began to see an increasing number of the addicted poor in our own backyard here in Contra Costa County.

We were heartbroken that there were very few resources for them. We felt God’s call to open Addiction Recovery Homes to help them find healing in every area of their lives. We now have 4 homes: 3 for men, and 1 for women and women with children. We are passionate about seeing their lives transformed through the power of Jesus Christ.

Who we help

Restore is reaching out into many ways, to people who are often hidden. We have reached out to women with children, helping them navigate "the system" and keep their kids while they work on being sober. Our men often come to us right off the streets, feeling the loving environment of our homes as they detox and in a year long program become productive members of society. We also partner with area Banner of Love Ministries as they reach out with meals to our homeless neighbors, the first contact that they have with us. The intent is to build a relationship with each person in order to see his or her life transformed. Currently we have residents living in both our mens and women's homes who received a lunch -- along with prayer. Hopeless addicts becoming transformed and restored!
